I had an audience with a few people among them my peers, my teacher and my father. I asked permission to speak my vision, insights and hopes. I said it will just be a short 5 minute version. The teacher nodded to go ahead.
First I spoke of my sense of cultural loss, as a person and as a member of society. As I gather my awareness of the past, its stories and experiences. I spoke specifically of story and song, participatory art, ritual, festival and celebration. Then I began to speak of my hopes for cultural renewal, the rediscovery of these cultural treasures. At this point I wondered and asked If my vision sounded too much like a lecture. My father agreed. Nevertheless, I held my courage to continue and I spoke my vision.
I spoke of the enduring yet ever changing relationships we have to person, family, community, wider society, humankind, our place in nature and even a galactic and cosmic relationship. Our place with in these, rediscovered through story and re-earthing our journey in ritual. Holding potential, like a seed in fertile ground, we unfold towards full realization, like the plant flowering and giving forth fruit. Our relationships are like an ecosystem of wider circles and on all these levels.
I spoke of an evolution of our human generations; in our many starts and re-buildings of community and in relation to various landscapes, empires, cultures, earth cycles and seasons. I spoke of remaking the drama through rituals, rediscovery through stories, festivity, song, drama and art. The sense of meaning we explored and could explore again. I gave as an example the importance of initiation and completion in ceremony and naming in recalling purpose and specifically ones personal, tribal and grand callings.
I spoke of opportunity. We could on local and continental scales gather in renewable energy, recycle materials and better our relationship with water ways. We could cooperate in relocating our shoreline habitats, replant forests along the shores and learn to farm different lands as the sea rises and climate changes.
More than plausible; for we can see that with in the last couple of centuries we have relocated and formed mega-cities, cutting down forests, damning giant reservoirs, leaving the inner lands, allowing wide open fields to dry and become salty. Also within this time, in recent history, the majority of humankind formed political citizenship and its representations. Our population, production, transport and communication have multiplied by an order of magnitude. This is all part of our story. What could we say about this?
As I awoke I continued my vision and beheld my unfolding dream... to type, edit and ponder...
Legends might emerge of wonder and meaning rediscovered in our relationship to nature here on the Earth. In the dawn rising, zenith noon and setting Sun and Moon, massive light bodies swirling us in their movements. They're illuminating waves of energy giving shape to our shorelines and horizons, days and seasons and growing our food.
Stories could be told of lifting winds and raining clouds, forming mountain ranges, forests, lakes and rivers. Our relationship to the sea, strong currents flowing, swelling waves and returning tides. The atmosphere above us is orbiting the ground below, expanding the biospheric world. The great wind carries coupled fields of high and low pressure, charging lightning, making an arrival known with a sudden clap and a trailing herald with a rolling thunder. Ice and snow cover peaks and form glaciers, an ancient process, like the gorges formed when they slide to the sea.
Myths abound of the highest mountain landscapes and deepest ocean valleys. Yet they are all reside with in a relatively thin band of crust floating over hot mantle. The lava itself surrounds further layers with an outer and inner magnetic core. Perhaps like the Sun, a powerful outward nuclear force balances the inward force of gravity. Some say the Sun will emit technology disrupting magnetic plasma bursts in 2012. Some say the Mayan calendar refers to a galactic cycle, with the parallel arms of the galactic spiral transitioning through each other in 2012.
Creatures, so many, I'm overwhelmed in their story. Humanity grows an inner fire of being, rapidly in pre-natal, born sucking from the breast of love, meets eye to eye in intimate embrace, learns to express verbal language crawling, raises upright virtue walking, dives off in to deeper waters while swimming in life's stream and takes to the sky of imagination flying. Perhaps we come back the way we came but it appears very different on return. Some say technology, virtual reality and AI are evolving by forces that are beyond human rational explanation.
As each layer of understanding unfolds and as overlapping circles and connections ripple into pattern, a story unfolds, a story told in these layers and circles. Standing on a thresh-hold of transition and change; we have personal, shared and grand narratives to rediscover.
The helm of story we lay hold, sails are filling, upon a sea, we sing of replanting our livelihoods, and building homes and neighborhoods. Our creative minds, hearts and voices sing in tune, of the past we shared and a future yet unknown. Imagining a voyage, we gaze in to the light which opens our horizons. Where could this sound vessel, these flowing currents and hallow winds take us?
Here are my wishes, learnings and visions; lingering like a recurring dream (mostly too heady to share):
1. Deepening meaning, identity, expression, reflection and relevancy in our experiential social networks.
2. Open source creative commons, transparent interest stake holdings in ownership, trade and politics.
3. Social, environmental and health value indicators springing from active community base currencies.
4. Residential share ownership enterprises supporting intentional whole person learning communities.
In lay terms, to love, be loved, in sincerity, honesty and friendship extending to society and the world.
